Background
Since its founding in 2002, the Class of 1979 Scholarship has awarded nearly one million dollars to support academically accomplished Barnesville community students who possess the aspiration and intellectual curiosity to attend one of our nation’s highest quality colleges or universities. The Scholarship is supported by Barnesville Scholarship Fund, Inc. (“BSF”). BSF will provide scholarships of $40,000 to as many as four students per graduating class to help cover the cost of education at eligible colleges and universities.
Mission
The mission of the Barnesville High School Class of 1979 Scholarship for Academic Excellence is to identify academically accomplished Barnesville High School seniors and to provide these scholars with the financial resources to attend one of our nation’s top colleges or universities.
The enduring goals of this scholarship program are:
To promote among all BHS students a greater respect for and appreciation of learning and the importance of a college education.
To provide BHS graduates who demonstrate exceptional intellectual strength and creativity with the resources to cultivate their talents to the greatest possible extent.
To encourage BHS students to set high personal goals in the hope that they ultimately will achieve more for themselves, their family, their community and their country.
To stimulate support from individuals and organizations within the Barnesville Area Community who wish to sponsor scholarships for outstanding scholastic achievement.
To encourage scholarship recipients to give back to their community some portion of the benefits they enjoy as the result of a superior education in order that future BHS graduates may have similar opportunities.
